David Pia is currently studying in Salzburg with Professor Clemens Hagen, member of the famous Hagen Quartet.
Amongst others, he has participated in master classes given by David Geringas, Bernhard Greenhouse, Janos Starker and Menahem Pressler.
He was taught chamber music by professor Gérard Wyss, with whom he recorded for the Swiss radio “DRS2” in 2002.
He is the prize-winner of several competitions:
David Pia is finalist of the
Tchaikovsky Competition 2007 and he won the second and best performance prize at the “International Adam Cello Competition” New Zealand in 2003.
Since 2002, David Pia has been sponsored by the scholarship “Migros Kulturprozent“and has been honoured by the “Basel Orchestral Company”.
Last year, he was invited to several music festivals such as the Kronberg Festival “Chamber Music Connects the World” where he played with Menahem Pressler and Eduard Brunner. Subsequently he took part at the Ravinia Festival in Chicago and worked in master classes with Ralph Kirschbaum, Miriam Fried and Pamela Frank.
David Pia played several times as soloist with the Basel Symphony and Chamber Orchestra and has often been invited to play at the music festival “young artists in concert“ in Davos (Switzerland).
So far, David Pia has played in a number of European cities and was invited to a concert tour through Brazil in 2003.
Out of a private collection at David Pia’s disposal, he is playing an instrument from the brothers Silvestre/Lyon 1841.
